Objective:The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of local injection of pinyangmycin mixed with dexamethason and sodium morrhuate for treating cavemous hemangioma in the maxillofacial region. Methods:58 patients with cavemous hemangioma in the maxillofacial region were recruited for this study. 8 mL of pinyangmycin was dissolved in 1 ml (5 mg) of dexamethason, and then mixed with 4ml of 1% procaine. 1~5 mL (pinyangmycin 1.6~8.0 mg) of the aforementioned mixed solution was injected into the hemangioma, followed by an injection of 0.5~2.0 mL of sodium morrhuate, according to the local appearance, size of the tumor and patient’s age. Generally, the amount of each injection should not be over 8 mg of pinyangmcin. If the tumor did not subside after an injection, another injection might be repeated every 5~7 days, and this process might be repeated 3~5 times. However, the total dose of pinyangmcin should not be over 40 mg. Results: The 58 patients were followed up for two years. 43 out of the 58 (74.14%) patients recovered completely, 12 (20.69%) recovered nearly completely, and 3 (5.17%) improved to some extend. The total effectiveness rate was 100%. Conclusion:Using pinyangmycin in combination with dexamethason and sodium morrhuate for local injection is an effective and safe method for treating hemangioma in the maxillofical region.
