Objective:To compare the effects of methylprednisolone and dexamethasone on the acute attack of asthma to children. Methods:79 cases were recruited for this study and divided in the treatment and control groups. 37 cases in the treatment group were given methylprednisolone with intravenous injection of a dosage of 1~2 mg8226;kg1, twice daily, while 42 cases in the control group given dexamethasone with a dosage of 0.3~0.5 mg8226;kg1, twice daily. The effects were observed 48~72 hours after administration of the drugs. Results:It was found that the pulmonary function was better after treatment in both groups than that before the treatment (P<0.05). A greater change was noticed in the treatment group (P<0.01). In the treatment group, obvious effects were observed in 20 cases (54.1%), some effects in 16 cases (43.2%), and no effect in 1 cases (2.7%). In the control group, obvious effects were observed in 11 cases (26.2%), effects in 24 cases (57.1%), and no effects in 7 cases (16.7%). The clinical effects achieved in the treatment group are much better than that in the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusions: Methylprednisolone is significantly effective in the treatment of the acute attack of acute asthma to the children. We recommend it in clinical practice.
