Objective:To observe effects of ginkgo biloba leave preparation (GBLP) on myocardial ischemia and hemorheololgy in patients with senile coronary artery disease (SCAD).Methods:Seventyeight cases of SCAD were diveded randomly into the treatment group (40 cases) and the control group (38 cases). The control group were treated with conventional method of sorbitrate and aspirin, and the treatment group were treated with GBLP 120mg P.O. tid ,on the basis of the conventional method. Both groups of patients were treated for consecutive 2 months. The parameters of blood lipids and hemorheology were measured and myocardial ischemia was assessed by dynamic electrocardiograms (Holter) before and after the treatment. Results:In the treatment group, the average levels of TC, TG, LDLC were lowered significantly(P<0.01) and HDLC was increased (P<0.05) while in control group, the leves of TC, TG, HDLC and LDLC were not different (all P>0.05) before and after the treatment. Observation on hemorheology showed that whole blood viscosity under low or high shear rate, plasma viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation index, erythrocyte electrophoresis time and specific vilume, and fibrinogen in the GBLP after the treatment were markedly reduced (P<0.01 or P<0.05), the action of ameliorating hemorheologic parameters was superior to that in the control group (P<0.05). Frequency and sustained time of symptomatic and asymptomatic myocardical ischemia were both decreased significantly in the two groups (P<0.01 and P<0.05 respectively) after the treatment, but the dectease was more marked in the treatment group than in the control group. No severe adverse effect was found in the followingup treatment with GBLP.Conclusion:GBLP exerts significant effects on lowering the blood lipids and improrving the conditions of hemorheololgy so as to be helpful in reducing the occurrence of myocardial ischemia. It is an effective and safe drug for the treatment of SCAD.
