Herald of Medicine is a professional academic journal of pharmacy, sponsored by Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the Chinese Pharmacological Society, under the supervision of Hubei Medical Products Administration. It was founded in 1982 and published on the first day of every month.

Since its inception, Herald of Medicine has adhered to the scientific, practical and informative nature of the journal, with the purpose of popularization, application and service, focusing on reporting novel achievements, technologies and methods of medical research at home and abroad. The journal pays attention to clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of drugs, guides rational clinical use of drugs, emphasizes quality control of drugs, publicizes the latest pharmaceutical policies and regulations, and plays link and bridge roles between pharmaceutical research, manufacturing, management and clinical use.

The journal has published a large number of high-level academic papers under the principle of "let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools of thought contend" and quality first. The journal has made important contributions to ensuring the safe use of drugs, promoting the exchange of peers in the pharmaceutical industry, and accelerating the development of pharmacy in China, which has won wide praise by pharmaceutical experts in China, achieving good social and economic benefits.

Herald of Medicine is included in Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations (i.e. the Key Magazine of China Technology) and the Peking University Library's “A Guide to the Core Journals of China”. It is indexed in important Chinese databases such as Wanfang Data Digitalized Periodical Group, China Academic Journal Comprehensive Evaluation Database Source Journals, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Chinese Medical Citation Index (CMCI), and Superstar Journal Database. It is also included in world famous databases, including Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) database, Chemical Abstracts (CA), International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA), and Ulrich’ s periodicals directory (UPD) and was selected for the World Journal Impact Index (WJCI) Report (Science and Technology).

The journal was supported by special fund of China Association for Science and Technology, and scientific journals development fund of Hubei Press and Publication Administration in2023 and 2024. Herald of Medicine was funded and awarded the "Innovation Source Project" Excellent Journal Award by Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Association in 2017 and 2021, respectively. From 2007 to 2019, it has been awarded as Hubei Excellence Journal and Hubei Excellent Medical Journal for six times. In 2020, it was nominated as one of the Ten Best Journals in Hubei Province. In 2022, it was selected into the Echelon Periodical Project in Hubei Science and Technology Journal Chutian Excellence Action Plan.
