Editorial Board

In order to fulfill the role, and clarify the responsibilities, rights and obligations of the editorial board of Herald of Medicine, as well as to ensure the journal's positive and long-term development, this constitution is formulated. The qualifications, rights, obligations and responsibilities of the eleventh editorial board of Herald of Medicine are announced below.

1. General Principles
Both individual application and institutional recommendation are required to apply for editorial board membership. In the selection of board members, geographical distribution is taken into account, so as to enroll experts from various regions at home and abroad. Specialization of members should cover medicine, pharmacy or cross disciplines. The general principle is to select scientific personnel with high scientific research level, strong writing ability in Chinese and foreign languages, proficiency in information retrieval, and enthusiasm for journal work.

2. Qualifications of Editorial Board Members
2.1 Editorial board members should meet the following conditions: engaged in clinical medicine, pharmacy or medicine related professional work; with the title of associate senior or above; younger than 65 (for editorial board members) or 45 years old (for young editorial board members); have presided over scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial level or above in the past 3 years as the first applicant; and published more than 5 papers in domestic and/or international academic journals. At the same time, they should be rigorous in their studies and own reputation in their specialty, have good organizational skills and social activity abilities, and be enthusiastic about the work of the journal.
2.2 Editorial board members should understand the characteristics and publication trends of Herald of Medicine. And they should provide peer reviews with an objective and impartial attitude within 15 days after submission by editorial staff.
2.3 Editorial board members should have received systematic scientific training, have good professional paper writing ability in Chinese and foreign languages, and actively write high-quality papers for Herald of Medicine.
2.4 Editorial board members should actively publicize Herald of Medicine, recommend excellent authors and organize high-quality manuscripts for the journal by participating in various international and domestic exchange and cooperation.
2.5 Editorial board members are welcomed to timely transmit the latest research trends in their fields and information on important research projects to the editorial office. Board members are advised to recommend key articles of the journal to expand academic influence in WeChat public account or other media, cite the journal's papers as references for relevant articles, read the journal frequently, provide timely feedback to the editorial office if deficiencies are found in the published articles, and actively feedback the opinions of readers and authors.
2.6 Editorial board members should actively participate in and/or organize relevant personnel to participate in the annual meeting of editorial board and academic exchange activities of the journal.

3. Rights of Editorial Board Members
3.1 The editorial office issues appointment letter to editorial board members and regularly invites them to participate in the editorial board meetings, the training for reviewers and academic exchange activities.
3.2 Excellent manuscripts written or recommended by board members will be reviewed and published with priority.
3.3 Editorial board members are paid based on the number and quality of manuscripts reviewed, as well as participation in other editorial work.
3.4 Editorial board members have the priority to participate in academic activities sponsored by the editorial office, such as training courses and academic exchange meetings.

4. Responsibilities of Editorial Board Member
4.1 Editor-in-Chief: be responsible for the overall work of the editorial board, formulate editorial guidelines and policies and determine the theme and scope of papers to be published.
4.2 Associate Editor-in-Chief: assist the Editor-in-Chief; act as the responsible editorial board member for more than one time, be the host of featured column and responsible for theme selection, planning and manuscript organization or invitation; write high-quality invited manuscripts; actively write manuscripts related to "standard, guideline and consensus"; host academic conferences for more than one time; participate actively in the editorial board meetings of the journal and cannot take leave without excuses.
4.3 Executive Editorial Board Member: serve as the responsible editorial board member for more than one time; be the host of featured column and responsible for theme selection, planning and organization or invitation of more than eight articles; write more than one paper annually; review the manuscript with high quality.; participate actively in the editorial board meetings of the journal and cannot take leave without excuses.
4.4 Editorial Board Member: actively act as the responsible editorial board member; be the host of featured column and responsible for theme selection, planning and manuscript organization or invitation; write more than two papers, and review manuscripts with high quality; participate actively in the editorial board meetings of the journal and cannot take leave without excuses.
4.5 Young Editorial Board Member: be welcomed to serve as responsible editorial board members and the host of featured column; write more than one paper; participate actively in the editorial board meetings of the journal and cannot take leave without excuses.

5. Appointment Duration and Exit Strategy
The appointment period of both editorial board member and young editorial board member is four years. Individual who has completed the editorial board work with excellence will be enrolled into the next editorial board with priority. After the expiration of appointment period, editorial board member who is competent in his work will be appointed to the next editorial board, and the youth editorial board member who works excellently will be recommended as editorial board member. Individual who is not qualified for the editorial board work during the appointment period will be automatically dismissed. The editorial office maintains the right to dismiss the unqualified member of editorial board.
